Even though I’m not much of a music listener, I still find myself the victim of earworms. You know, those bits of songs that get stuck in your head. Playing over and over at every momentary cognitive downtime. Yeah, those things. They happen to me now and then.
For a while, recently, it was a Burger King jingle.
“At BEEEE-KAAAY, have it your way.”
It’s a terrible-sounding jingle, but it stuck in my head. So much so, in fact, that I felt the need to share it with Nora each time it started playing in my head. Even now that the worm is dead, I still break into it from time to time just for the giggle. (I am the funny one)
Less often, but more long term, there have been songs stuck in my thoughts. For a long while, I would vocalize the clown song when getting in and out of my car.
Bum-bum-badda-badda-bum-bum-badda
This past little while it’s been the Meatloaf song, “Out of the Frying Pan (And Into the Fire)” popping up now and then. Two lines specifically.
- You were only killing time and it will kill right back
- You’ve got nothing to do and even less to lose
I’m not sure why. I don’t fully understand what the song itself is about, I guess I just always thought it was kinda catchy. In general, I like the idea of Meatloaf more than the product of the Jim Steinman songs he sings. I’d argue that every one of the songs has a line or chorus that speaks to me, but maybe the overall song doesn’t do it. I mean, heck, two out of three ain’t bad.
Are you prone to earworms? What’s your most catchy one?
