In talking with Nora, it’s become painfully obvious that this writing thing isn’t catching on the way I’d hoped yet. These posts seem to be getting shorter and less insightful as the days move along. I’m not sure what to do about it. It would seem a good idea not to try to post every day, but I’m pretty sure without a daily deadline, I would find myself a week or two down the road before I even think about posting again. We’ll see what Monday brings with the first day at the new job. Till then, let’s continue…
Today’s edition of “alexithymia or no” features ways of thinking. Here’s the symptom:
“a logical and rigid thinking style that does not account for emotions“
I thought I would talk about this symptom in terms of the fictional characters I most identify with. In no certain order
- Dr. House from the TV show, House MD
- Dexter from the TV show Dexter
- Tony Stark from the MCU movies
- Sheldon Cooper from the TV show The Big Bang Theory
- Spock from the TV show Star Trek
- Data from the TV show Star Trek
House, far and away, is my favorite TV character.
By and large, as most of these characters developed in their respective stories to have more depth and emotion, I lost interest in them. I see their dedication to facts and logic as their strength. In fact, often, I think, their transition into beings grappling with emotions weakens them as people and, in some cases, leads to their downfall.
Who’s your favorite fictional character?
